29 November 2012-11-29 - Dear Friends of Knoticat

A crew meeting was held on 12 November to plan next year`s sailing activities plus initiate the10 year refit of Knoticat during the oncoming Winter non sailing period.

During the 2012 sailing season 80 trips were carried out carrying around 500 people.

An extensive refit of Knoticat has now been made possible due to a grant from the Talbot Trust to whom we are deeply grateful.

David Creech and Derek Simmons will act as joint project managers to oversee the refit that will encompass:

- Antifouling & Osmosis treatment

- Hull cleaning & polishing

- Superstructure weatherproofing and repainting

- Propeller renovation

- Renewal of toilet system

- Overhaul of electrical system & bilge pumps.

- Annual maintenance of engines

The boat will be craned out at Cobbs Quay Marina at 1200hrs on Monday 7 Jan 13 and be placed on a hard-standing until Friday 1 Mar 13 when it will be craned back into the water. During the period ashore it is hoped to carry out the majority of the work (weather permitting).

Adverts have been prepared for the vacant posts of Boat Booking Officer and Fund Raiser, these posts will be advertised in the papers early in the new year.

Activities in addition to sailing from Poole Harbour in 2013 will include sailings from both Weymouth and Lymington to accommodate disabled clients in these localities.

Volunteers are still required to assist in all aspects of the boats operation ranging from administration to crewing. Any interested parties are asked to contact the secretary Rosalind Green on 077 486 88 999.

It is hoped to introduce an electronic booking system next year using the website in addition to the telephone. Full details will be in the Spring Newsletter to be published in March 2013.
